While the 28-300 produces great quality it's not comparable to the 70-200. The zoom range on the 70-200 is of course more restricted but that's just how it works. Couple it with a wider angle lens like the 17-40 or maybe 24-70 and you'll be pretty well off. If you want a lens that does all focal lengths, I've found the 28-300 to perform very well.

The EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens newly incorporates a fluorite lens element and includes five UD (ultra-low dispersion) elements, one more than than the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens.
